Counting Down with Frosty The Snowman & Friends

Some of my Favorite Holiday Memories were when CBS would broadcast their holiday cartoon specials.  I grewup in a time where kid's shows were only on a couple of hours on Saturday mornings and during the holidays.  It made it so much more exciting to have to wait to see these classics.  They still make me feel like a kid again every time I watch them.  I hope you enjoy:)

Bob Barker & The Price Is Right 40th Birthday Bash Snub

Found in EstrangedEphemera at http://ow.ly/dtwDj
While The Price Is Right celebrates its 40th Birthday, Drew Carry will be the live host and Bob Barker will be featured as vintage video clips instead.  Why?  Possibly because of his strong and active views on animal rights.  After leaving the show, Barker has reported that they have offered trips to places where animal cruelity has been acceptable and part of the package deal.  A trip to Canada's Calgary Stampede, where horse are killed in the conditions of the stampeded, and others have stirred Barker to call everyone in CBS that he could to stop the use of trips to these places.
From IvyLaneDesigns at http://ow.ly/dtwvH
Unfortunately it seems that we, as a society, have become very good at turning a blind eye to issues that may not be convenient for us at the time.  Rather take that trip at the expense of the horse because it is "an Experience of a life time" and ignor the harsh reality that living creatures die simply for entertainment purposes.

I have to say that I personally found "Please remember to Spay and Neuter your pets" at the end of every show annoying but it did get the message accross because I still remember it.  I respect the man for standing up for what was and is right and how much he has done for animal rights.  I can't imagine how hurtful it was to dedicate so much time to CBS to simply have them "snub" you like they did.

Sorry Bob but just know that many of us that grew up with you saying "come on down" don't even watch the show now that you are no longer the host.

A little nostalgic today, so here's to the good old Price Is Right:

Taking A Walk Down Memory Lane

I was scrolling through my Facebook home page when I came across a few posts that brought back memories for me.  I love Reminisce Magazine and they will post often wonderful things from days gone by.  Retro Milwaukee Share The Memories is another great Facebook page filled with nostalgic images.

I remember a time when prizes in the cereal boxes and Cracker Jacks were really something to get excited about.  They were mostly plastic, which many adults at that time would complain about but they were still better than the lame paper cards and things the companies use as premiums now.  Although, when my kids were growing up they had the Beanie Babies in many of the Big G cereals and they were very cute.
These wonderful vintage box records (from my generation) were found in Etsy Shop FolkLura at http://ow.ly/csdCH
These great Cracker Jack premiums were found in Etsy Shop NeyNeysTreasures at http://ow.ly/csenV
I also remember a time when beer and cigarette commercials had cartoon characters.  I never thought much about it growing up until they were gone.  While they may have not been appropriate, I thought they were great at the time because it was one of the only cartoon available.  We didn't have cable or even that many channels to choose from, just ABC, CBS, and NBC; maybe PBS if we could suck it into our giant counsel TV with some rabbit ears.
When I was growing up our kids shows were so much more entertaining.  I think that it was because we had to wait for them making the shows a treat not an every day thing; I loved the Jetsons, New Zoo Revue, and Captain Kangaroo.

It is fun to reminisce about a time when things were a little more simple; that is not to say I would want to ever go backwards, but it is always good to check the review mirror every once in a while.
Who doesn't love the California Raisins?  Found these in Etsy Shop, Aquarius247 at http://ow.ly/cse0d

Monday Meet and Greet the Members of the Pacific Postcards Team - Retro Vintage Bazaar

This is a blog posting that introduces a different shop member of the Pacific Postcards Team (PPT) each week.  The PPT is a great group of people that either have a shop full of postcards (old and new) or incorporates the beautiful vintage images into their artwork and handmade items.  We also have several members that simply love postcards and ephemera.

Today’s featured member is Andrea Vogal owner of shop RetroVintageBazaar.  Her wonderful shop is filled to the brim with lovely vintage items including over 200 postcards and greeting cards ranging in age from the early 1900’s to later vintage.  She also has a large collection of photographs, Stereoviews, books, records, household, and so much more!

 From Andrea’s Profile:
Lover of all things unique. I enjoy going to flea markets, thrift shops, and yard sales. There is nothing like finding something at the bottom of an ugly pile of junk..cleaning it up and finding a wonderful treasure!

Taking old abused, misunderstood, neglected items and turning them into something new and wonderful..

I grew up around antiques and collectibles. Even as a child I loved old things. Over the years I have collected some amazing things. Many of which have come to me by way of friend and family.

These days, Hubby and I spend our extra time together going to auctions, flea markets, yard sales, and we love picking through boxes to find a treasure in the rough.

I hope that you find something interesting that speaks to you and make it yours. “
