Happy second day of Fall! This time of year is always one of nostalgia and fond memories for me. Growing up on the farm made fall a very special time; as the air grew cooler you knew that it was going to be a flurry of activity and hard work to get the harvests in and the animals ready for the long winter months. The lazy days of summer are drawing to a close and the fields are beginning to turn a golden brown signaling to animals and humans alike, the food is ready. But when there was increased work that meant we needed increased hands to get it done. Family and friends that had grown up and moved away from the farm would come back to work. Neighboring farmers would stop by to check out your status to see how far you were bringing in your fields. As a kid that would mean more excitement and visiting over a home cooked meal with people you haven't seen for a long time.

While farming was filled with hard physical work, it was also very rewarding. I do feel a little sad that small independent farms have become a part of history and just a memory replaced by cold industrial production. But alas the world is ever changing.
