Before there were Interstates, fast lanes, and toll roads there was Route 66. Nick names the Mother Road and Main Street of America sums up quickly why this iconic road strikes romantic images of travel and Americana. This 2400 mile of highway running from Chicago Illinois all the way to Santa Monica California. Unfortunately with the dawn of interstates and the fast pace that American's have become accustom to bankrupted many small tourist towns along the route. Now there are efforts to restore Route 66 to its former glory (here is a great link to a website that supports this revitalization http://national66.org/.) I for one love to take this route over the crazy rat race on the modern interstates and recommend if you have not traveled on Route 66 add it to your bucket list.
