Spring Flowers on the Weekend Gift Guide

We have been having more rain in California than I have ever seen. Which means an amazing desert bloom of the wild flowers.  I have always loved spring but while living in the Midwest it had a special meaning; I survived the harsh Wisconsin winter.  But more importantly spring flowers remind us of rebirth and new starts; of resurrection and life restored.  What beautiful symbolism for the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior.

Palo Brea Tree on Hump Day Promotions

Hey Hey... What Day is it?  It's Hump Day! 

This week I am sharing one of my favorite flowers/trees; the Palo Brea Tree.  I love the bright and cheery butter yellow petals.  This tree is so full of blossoms that when these petals drop they cover the ground in a blanket of yellow.  Anything under has sun kisses attached to them until the next winds sweeps them away.  I always have to resist grabbing up a pile to treasure (of course there is bugs and dirt involved so that is will keep my urge in check)

Celebrating May Day

As a child I can remember celebrating May Day and loving this sign that winter is finally vanquished and my summer fun was really starting.  We would decorate green produce baskets with colorful papers and fill them with treats and handmade flowers.  On the May Day morning we would set the baskets on our neighbors steps and give them to our teachers.  I can remember at least a couple of years where we actually decorated a May Pole.  

It seems that this fun little tradition is dying out; I sincerely hope not since it is such a wonderful celebration of life and nature.  I am hoping that it is just that I am not at an age to dance around a pole with ribbon anymore and others are still holding onto great tradition.
