Of all the ways to design a garden my favorite by far is the freestyle of the Cottage Garden. My gardens of past reminded me of wondering through wild flowers (but secretly it was organized.) Tall center pieces with brightly colored mounds surrounding it; there is a certain eye that is needed other wise you would have a mess.

Often this eye develops from trial and error but even the mistakes are beautiful and can be relocated.

I find nothing is more inspiring than spending time in a cottage garden. Meditating, reading, painting, or maybe just day dreaming is all much more fulfilling when done among the flowers. I remember my cottage gardens when I think back to the most restful and peaceful times of my life.
