My Grandfather loved baseball and during my visits would explain our National Pastime and the stories of his days in the minor league. I loved spending time with him and hearing his stories but aside from these isolated moments, baseball never would cross my mind. Unfortunately my father had not found sports to be a valuable use of time and we never watched it in any form and the topic of baseball was quickly replaced with hauling wood, farming, and "real life."

So sadly it wasn't until after my Grandfather passed that I really found my love for the game. While living in Fresno my hubby took me to my first semipro/pro baseball game. Our hometown team was the Grizzlies. Terry told me that he was going to catch me a ball that day. Honestly, while I acted as if I thought he could, I am a logical person and even with little knowledge of the game I new my odds. Imagine my surprise as baseball flew through the air directly at us and... he caught me my first baseball.

As a summer person baseball was addictive, going to the game in the heat of day slowly cooling to a perfect 80 degrees, the field lights pop on, the mascot teases the crowd, nachos, hot-dogs.... I fell in love. Now waiting for spring training is like waiting for Christmas. Baseball is filled traditions and creating my own with Terry has created some of my most fond memories.
