I absolutely love Vintage Kitchens.  When I lived in the Midwest I had many pieces that I used on a daily basis (from the table to the cookbooks) and my kitchen truly felt like a blast from the past.  I think that my kitchen was always one of the most comfortable rooms in the house and to have the warmth and charm of vintage pieces was so fitting. Here is a great collection from my shops, I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Are You a Marvel Fan or a DC Comics Fan? or Are You a Little "Two-Faced?" - TGIF Let's Just Have Fun!

Growing up I was not able to read comic books or watch television that had references to god-like characters such as Thor, Batman, etc.  But I have always loved cartoons especially Loony Toons and even watch them to this day.  But I think since I didn't grow up with words popping into the screen like "POW" and "WHAM" or the dark and dismal caricatures of cities taken under siege, I can not get into those super hero cartoons. 

Over the years I have skipped past many Transformers, Batman and Hulk cartoons with no interest in them at all; I almost find them to be annoying.   With that being said, I am now officially addicted to the Transformer Movies.  The computer technology of this age and the ability to make these flat boring characters Pop from the screen has now completely sucked me in.

With my newly found addiction I have also incorporated others including the Dark Night movie, Fantastic Four, and Iron Man.  Oddly though, I find that I have the same aversion to The Hulk and Spiderman as I did to their earlier cartoon versions.  This led me to the question "Why?" (I know, I may have a little too much time to think sometimes.)  My husband's solution was simple; Marvel Comics are far more superior than DC and that Stan Lee rules supreme.  Unfortunately I felt he may have been a bit bias with answer because he grew up with a stash of Spidy comics and was completely into "CA POW" flashing across the television.  So I put technology to good use and started to search the Internet.

As always with me, it turns out that it is not as simple as Marvel vs. DC.  Transformers started out as Hasbro and not even part of  Marvel or DC in the beginning but did eventually become part of the Marvel Comics family.  It also turns out that although Batman is DC and  the Fantastic Four is Marvel, Stan Lee wrote both at one point!  I am so confused.   I have actually decided to never consult my husband (or any other man) ever again on this matter because he is die hard Marvel but loves Batman; What?! and it just hurts my head, "POW!!"

I guess I don't care why I like some over others anymore, but I eagerly await the new Transformers (#1 on my list,) the new Dark Night, and what ever other amusing character they come out with.  I think that for me it isn't whether it was Marvel or DC but whether it is believable.  For some reason I can totally see giant robots from outer space messing with Earth really happening but not a giant morphing green man.  I am just sophisticated that way.

My question to you on this fine Friday Morning - Marvel or DC or is it Stan Lee that does it for you or does it even matter?

Happy Birthday David Bowie

David Bowie turns 65 years old today.   Really, good Lord where does the time go?  Granted he is older than I am but I grew up with his music and it just seems like yesterday.


Growing up in the 70's and 80's was a really strange time but maybe it feels the same for all generations and I just noticed mine.   As I was growing up there was such a wide range of changes in things like technology and pop culture it wasn't the same country in 1980 as it was in 1970.  There are so many things that the kids couldn't live without today that were first introduced to the public during my teens.  Things like . . .Satellite dish, heck when I was young many of us still had black and white TVs . . . Cell phones, the phones in our home still had to be connected to the wall and it was a novelty to have a one in any other color than black or ivory . . . Computers, I felt so lucky that our family had a type writer (first one wasn't even electric.)  When these technologies changed so did our pop culture along with how and where we would listen to our music.

I the 70's, aside from a live concert, the radio, record player,  and boom box was where you would listen to your music.  But in the 80's along came satellite TV and MTV!   I was a typical teenage girl so I was obsessed with my music.  I liked rock and blues most and my favorites where David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, Hendrix, Blues Brothers, and Alice Cooper but basically I loved all music from that genera. As a boy crazy teenage girl, MTV fed both of my obsessions by not only blasting the music but the images of what it was to be a big haired rock star.  Every boy and girl in my school dressed to look like either a member of Van Halen or The Bangles.

During the 80's, the band's or singer's hair was almost equally as important as whether or not they could sing.  If you didn't have the hair you might as well hang it up.  David Bowie had the hair, the talent, and the rebellious style that we all craved at the time.  Was it really so long ago that I was jammin' to Fame and trying to "rock the house down?"  Yikes! time flies...


Happy Birthday David Bowie and thanks for fulfilling the music needs of a rebellious teenage girl.  I hope you have a great one it was a lot of fun.

The Muppets Are Back In Town! ~All is well

Growing up in the 70's and 80's was an amazing time.  I was smack dab in the middle of many significant changes in history and culture.  I was around to see a boom time, one that many of us would look back on with nostalgia and longing.  The collapse of the Berlin wall, the end of the cold war, the country's financial stability and more important the world was introduced to the Muppets. 

While many of us long for the security we felt when the country was thriving financially and politically we can't go back in time or resurrect the past.  But what we can do is watch reruns and make sequels.  Maybe that is why I am so gravitated to these cute little puppets.  Not only do they bring cute antics and fun entertainment but they carry with them a memory of better times, comforting me and letting me know that yes they are still here.  Kermit hasn't forgotten me and look he brought Miss Piggy...

...OR maybe it is 2:30 am and I really need to look at getting more sleep at night.  I am not sure which it is but what I do know is that Muppets were great and it is nice to see an old familiar face.
