The Wild Side: Weekend Gift Guide

Today's Wild Side theme is inspired from a OnThisDay.com message in my inbox.  Today in 1888 National Geographic had its beginning.  I am sure I am not the only person that tends to take this organization for granted but it has truly impacted so many.  It's mission was to "increase and diffusion of geographic knowledge" which I would have to say they have accomplished.  I don't know of many Americans that haven't picked up a Nat Geo magazine and thought to themselves "I've got to go their."

I spent hours thumbing through the thick glossy pages of my grandfather's National Geographic Magazines dreaming of traveling across the seas.  Even though sometimes frightful they presented so many tantalizing destinations I filled my bucket list a dozen times over.

This gift guide is celebrating the Wild Side of our globe to honor National Geographic who created the travel bug in so many of us.

Every morning I get a OnThisDay.com message in my inbox.  Today's inspired my Light and the Dark side Gift Guide.  On this day Edgar Allen Poe was born and on this day Edison start to truly light up our world.  Edison installed overhead lines in Roselle New Jersey, giving them light in 1883.
